These photos were taken while on adventures from Coast to Coast.
Well American politics may be lousy, but this is the country I was born in, nonetheless. Rest assured I wasn't humming that Clash song, "I'm so bored with the USA," when I was in these scenic spots. Please pass me my tomahawk. I realize all states aren't represented, but I'm not that much of a Superhero.

Alaska 3 day hike above Skagway
Lama has lived alone up in Alaska year round for several years--in addition to going all over the world with a backpack himself. Now that takes some guts. Fortunately it wasn't 50 degrees below zero when I took this photo. Funny thing about Lama is I know he won't mind me posting him naked. He took me kyaking, mountain climbing, and glacier viewing. He ice climbs Search and Rescue EMT in the winter and also carries a shotgun just in case he has to kill a bear in self defense. He's also rafted the Grand Canyon.

East Texas
The street behind my house in highschool. I started taking photography seriously at age 15. This was one of the first photos I took that people liked.
Union Falls Colorado
You can tell how tall these falls are by looking for the Chinese girl in the orange teeshirt. I also got under these falls cause I'd been a long time on the trail with map and compass before that. Not too many tourists here and that was also refreshing. The power of the water was so strong that it hurt if you stood directly under it. Yeah, I guess waterfalls do carve canyons, don't they? Just watch out for the rainbows and superstitous Irish!
Longs Peak, 14,000 feet Colorado
Longs Peak. I climbed it from the very bottom with a backpack. You can see how steep and high by cliking on the picture and looking for the trail marked with a bullseye by the National Park Service on the rocks in the middle of the picture at the bottom. You can see the hikers below me struggling to reach the top and sign the roster to show you made it (if you can stand the wind.) The elevation was so high it was impossible to boil water.
White Buffalo, Wyoming
I did see a wild buffalo from about 10 feet away in Yellowstone. It was just sitting there in the snow, motionless. Just me and it. I watched it for almost an hour from behind a tree. I saw heards of them in the wild while hiking. Intense. This one was outside the park and wasn't wild, so I could take a photo. I like the legend. Pass the peace pipe.
Pitchstone Trail Geyser Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming
I saw the smoke from what I thought was a campfire. I was relieved to talk to any soul who would comfort me in my solitute. Turns out, it was only lava bubbling from the bowels of the earth. Don't even know what the geyser was called cause it wasn't marked. Just follow those rock cairns and try not to cry. Singing helps a lot.
Sand Dunes, New Mexico
I grew up in Solana Beach, CA. I loved Star Wars, especially the Sand People. As a kid, I lived 5 miles from the beach and always was builing sand castles, bodyboarding, and sunbathing.
Bulldozer with Swastika Logo, Deep in the South
Walking around a constuction site one day, we happened upon this bulldozer with a swastika on the front of it. When questioned about it, the workers said the company was called Oscar Renda and they were digging water tunnels for sewage. Then they told me not to trespass ever again. I suppose the America page can't be all Fun and Games.
Gutterpunk from 6th st, Austin, TX
I was in college and somehow managed to invite over to my apt. almost every dragworm on 6th st. I don't know how I made it through college for that reason. Austin is the music capitol of the world and there are lots of drugs around. Lots of kids in and out of trouble, just like any other big city. Most crusties just had puppies, not dogs. Too much commitment. Most crusties wanted to go camping, too. "Take me, take me. I don't wanna go back to jail." Like a puppy. Wilderness and urban survival on your own takes courage. Different kinds of skills. Education from the streets or the wild to me is just as valid as anything I ever learned from a book.
Joe Lifto of Jim Rose Circus
How do I drive out to the wilderness unless I got money for gas? How do I get money? My parents? I work and I make a name for myself? Is that the way it works? Lifto is lifting a car battery with his tongue piercing for a sideshow circus. Does he do this for fun? Why don't you ask him? He works as a bartender on 6th st now after travelling all over the world with Jim Rose. Once my battery died out in New Mexico while I was watching a Sun Dance on an Indian reservation. I had to get a jump start from these Indian guys and they were laughing their asses off, encouraging me to stay a while. I was crying, both from the battery problem and from watching the ceremony. No photos allowed of that or of the Corn Dance my mom took me to.
Freedom Austin, TX
Let freedom ring? This girl I would call up on the phone and she lived with me for a short time. The first girl I ever kissed. She was 19 and got pregnant shortly thereafter by her boyfriend. I lost touch with her. The older you get, the more you realize how quickly people disappear and reappear like magic.
New Orleans Louisiana
A trip to New Orleans with Colin on Halloween. Click on the image to see X-Files type ghost in this picture. There are a lot of ghosts in New Orleans. And Vampires, esp. in the French Quarter. Now Colin lives with me in New York and is doing his art.
Bat Skeleton, Washington D.C.
At the Natural History museum in Washington D.C. Bones behind glass. It scares me. Maybe I will be a bat in my next life. Live for today.
Transsexual with Tribe of Indians, New York City
I've lived in New York for the past 3 years and do photojournalism professionally. This photo was taken at Wigstock.
